Sculptor Paul Kamish has revived the ancient Greek and Roman form of art; “Relief Sculpture”.  He has injected his own innovates to create a classic and truly unique piece of Fine Art.

Kamish begin each work of art by composing a number of sketches and finished drawing and paintings of his concept.

Kamish then sculpts the piece in an oil-based clay that only acts as the form that will be cast into an original sculpture.  From the clay sculpture, a master mold is made, the clay is destroyed in the process, and an exact likeness of the clay sculpture is captured.

From this master mold, each sculpture from the edition is individual cast in Kamish’s innovative bonded-bronze process in which the bronze surface layer is backed by a light-weight resin material.

Each sculpture is hand-patinas with multiple layers creating a rich and magnificent bronze finish.

Each work of art is signed and numbered by the artist and finished in a custom shadow-box frame of museum quality.

The finished piece weighs only 40 pounds which makes these sculptures easy to hang in your home or office.

Creating a Common Language of Hope

Overall Vision

In 2010, we are enjoying a wide range of improvements and growth in our community. Young people are graduating from school and moving into productive secondary and career opportunities at record levels. Gangs are significantly re-directed from negative to positive activities and are natural helpers within the community, helping the community to grow. Parents benefit from specialized programs designed to enable them to reinforce the language of hope with their children. Active beautification efforts in the community increase respect for people and property. All facets of the community work together for A BETTER LA.

Our Mission

A BETTER LA mobilizes the knowledge and skills of the community to inspire each person to dream, work and play without fear.

We're In, Are You?

Things don't have to stay the way they are…the power to make that change resides in each and every one of us. There is strength in our numbers and we leave no one untouched by our message of hope.

The Artist

Although  Paul Kamish works in a variety of mediums he is best know for his work in relief.  “To call my artwork bas-relief,” says Kamish, "is not entirely accurate, in that bas-relief technically refers to low relief sculpture.

My art contains a portion of bas relief, but the majority of the sculpture is much deeper. In fact, much of the sculpture actually comes in full-round rising toward the viewer.  Full round arms and leg leaves the background extending into space.

Technically, sculptures combining various levels of relief and full-round parts are called Alto (high) Relief sculptures. A similar technique has been used on classic Roman and Greek buildings.”

The unique distinction in Kamish’s work is that along with Alto aspects of deep, he adds a sight of perspective and depth of field that can only be achieve in relief.   You see this illusion made in a painting, but this illusion could not be accomplished in a sculpture in the full round.  “This vast ability to create extraordinary depth and the illusion of great distance in just a few inches with the physical and directional aspects of sculpture is why I prefer relief sculpture to any other form of art.”

The sculpture hangs on a wall and comes our several inches.  By mastering these techniques, Kamish is able to create a visual space relationship of several hundred feet.  It draws the viewer in.  Rather than a causal observer, the viewer now becomes an active participant in the drama unfolding before his eyes.

Without a doubt, Paul Kamish’s creations are strikingly unique in the world of contemporary art.
